Throughout the winter months, I suffer from extremely dry scalp. I’m not sure what exactly it stems from, one dermatologist told me it was psoriasis and another said it was normal and that some people just have it. Either way, it has been something I have been self-conscious of and I have been trying every product on the market to find out what really works best. Just so you know, I wash my hair 1-2 times a week, and work out 5-6 times a week. My hair is naturally really dry so it never looks dirty.

After moving to New York, the cold weather made my scalp even worse and a bit flaky. I know it sounds gross, but it is a real struggle with people who deal with dry scalp and it’s can be embarrassing at times when someone says, “Oh, you have something in your hair,” or something along those lines. I have been using sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner and I never condition my scalp. ┬áThere are two products I have been using for just over 3 weeks and they have completely changed my scalp. The first is Le Labo’s Basil + Sea Salt Scalp Scrub. You really need to rub the gel-like substance into your scalp until the sea salt dissolves and then really rinse it out. The first time I used this, I didn’t do a good enough job rinsing it out and it left a residue on one section of my hair and that was annoying. The next time I used it, I made sure to rinse it out completely and it felt amazing. There seems to be some sort of mint in it because it leaves your scalp feeling cool and very clean. It’s my new obsession! I’m not sure if it is safe for color-treated hair though, so it would be worth inquiring about that. The second product I have been using is Oribe’s Anti-Dandruff Shampoo. I use this after the Le Labo scrub and do a thick lather all over, massaging it into my scalp. It smells great and looks like it has glitter in it, so I loved it from the second I squeezed it out, but it really does work too!

Another thing I have tried to do is let my hair towel dry for about 30 minutes before I blow dry it so that less heat is applied to both my scalp and hair. My hair has grown a ton since I started doing this about 6 months ago and then I apply an oil to my ends once it’s been blow dried. I would love to hear if anyone else struggles with dry scalp, and if so what products do you use? Comment below!
